Tuesday night started out well as our JV basketball team came out strong in a win over Gilbert Classical. While the game felt like we had full control, the Centurions could not quite slip away from Gilbert, but they hung on for the victory in their first game, 37-30. 8 players scored in the game and the team was led by JT Mitchell and Jordan Core with 8 points each, followed by Josh Bleimeyer with 7.
In the Varsity game, Cicero lost to a hot shooting Gilbert Classical team 30-66. Hot shooting in the first and third quarters by Gilbert hurt the Centurions and put them in a hole they could not recover from. Cicero did not back down and continued to fight the whole game and played even with Gilbert in the second and fourth quarters. The Centurions were led by Zach Van Voorhees with 15 points and JT Mitchell brought the energy and the long ball with three 3-pointers and 9 points.
The Varsity girls played their first game of the season and after a close first quarter where they only trailed by 4 points, Gilbert slowly stretched their lead over the next two quarters and Cicero opened their season with a 13-38 loss. While the girls are a young and learning team, they played with a lot of heart and passion. Cicero was led by Ernestine Wallace with 8 points and Gouyen Brown-Lopez with 5.
All Teams are back on the court Thursday night with games starting at 4pm. Come out and support our teams!
