On Friday night, September 7th, our Lady Centurions came out a little flat and could never really find a groove to compete with Valley Lutheran. Cicero lost 0-3 with set scores of 9-25, 9-25, and 10-25. Junior Ari Flores was all over the gym floor coming up with 11 digs in the game. Two of the digs were simply amazing and inspiring to watch. Flores also added 4 assists and 1 kill. Sophomore Mayuri Sreetheran added 7 kills.
Prior to the game, Randy Krieger, the Valley Lutheran Coach informed Cicero AD, Billy Hunt about it being Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy awareness day. Mr. Krieger’s grandson Fritz, who is just 2 years old was recently diagnosed with DMD. To help support their cause the team, coaches and members of their community were wearing Fritz and Friends t-shirts. Cicero was happy to join them, and made an announcement about this important day and had Fritz join the team on the floor. The Valley Lutheran team presented our players with bracelets to support this cause. To end the celebration, Cicero presented Fritz with a small token of appreciation by giving him a Centurion t-shirt, which was big enough to be used for pajamas. Mr. Hunt will also donate 20% of the admissions from this game to help support Fritz and his family.
Sports can bring us together for many things and we should always remember that at the end of the day.
