Centurions News · New Head Coach for HS/MS Track and Field

Hailing from Memphis, TN, Coach Cash has a lifetime of experience growing and learning in Track & Field with deep roots in the sport. Her mother, who is currently a Hall of Fame member at Arizona State University (’77 – ’81), was the Head Track & Field Coach at the University of Memphis for 22 years, winning conference titles and being awarded Coach of the Year in both the Metro and C-USA Conferences. Her grandfather Lee Calhoun was an Olympic two-time track and field gold-medalist, and the first man in history to win back to back Gold medals in the 110 hurdles in the ’56 and ’60 Olympics. He was also in the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame and was a successful coach at Grambling, Yale, and Western Illinois Universities. Because of this background, she has met, socialized, and trained with many Olympic and track & field greats.

Personally, she has been involved in Track & Field as an athlete from the age of 6 until her injuries caused her to complete her running career as a short-lived college athlete at the University of Arizona. During this time, she had to replace a love and a personal identity in Track with a healthy alternative. Her decision began with the intention of giving back to other athletes who had transitioned from sport in situations that mirrored hers. She chose to continue by studying in the field of sports by earning her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Wellness and her Master’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Psychology. During her studies, she focused on the athlete as a whole instead of just the athlete in sport. A few of her educational accomplishments include: completing a thesis on the retirement of student-athletes from sport, creating life-skill workshops for athletes to help them develop a self-identity that goes beyond sport, and career aspirations that focus on personal development. Putting these theories into practice, her coaching experience ranges from middle school to college where she has worked with athletes in multiple track & field events.

Having the education, the personal experience, and family background, Coach Cash brings a holistic lens to Cicero Prep creating an environment focused on athletic prowess and personal growth. We are excited to welcome Coach Cash to the Cicero Preparatory Community.
